What is dance doing on a blog about calm and stillness?  Well, this blog is also about mindfulness, awareness, and living in the moment.

And what better way to live in the moment than to dance?

It doesn’t matter if you dance in front of people or in the privacy of your own room, door closed, shades drawn.  Dancing is self-expression.  It is blood-flowing, song-touching, joy-inducing fun.

I love to belly dance, but I also enjoy free-style– just moving my body to the rhythm, not worrying about a single thing.  Because that’s the thing: when you dance, you are immersed in a world with no troubles, no worries, and no cares.

You don’t have to know any steps.  All you have to do is move.

All you need is you and your favorites songs, and you can experience the joy of dancing.  Don’t worry about what it looks like.  Don’t worry about what jiggles (us women tend to jiggle when we move, and that’s okay!).  Don’t worry about doing it right.

Just feel the flow of this wonderful thing called music, and the freeing self-expression called dance.
