May the Lord provide you
with your daily bread and wisdom
Pride only breeds quarrels,
but wisdom is found in those who take advice.
Proverbs 13:10 NIV
Right now, as I’m understanding it, is this verse talks about thinking you know everything and refusing everyone’s advice. This can also take the form (in more modern times) of thinking you know everything… and not looking up whether what you “know” is true or not! It is turning a blind eye to wisdom and truth, because you think you already know better.
But there’s always another side to the story. Depending on where you look, there is more (and more accurate) information elsewhere. I see this to be a problem I’m getting away from. Certain websites want people to think homogeneously by lying, exaggerating, and gossiping. It’s manipulative, and it inspires pride.
Be silent. Ask for advice. Listen to other people, even people you’ve heard rumors about. Give people time to explain themselves. Seek other answers, especially when it comes to juicy gossip.
Juicy gossip is fun, but useless and harmful.
It’s like smoking a cigarette– you think you’re getting
something out of it, but it is getting
something out of you.
Pride does breed quarrels. Two sides who think they know everything will undoubtedly clash heads.
So be humble. Listen to both sides. Take advice. Lift up that advice and compare it to the Bible, and wisdom will be found.
Thank you for taking the time to read these thoughts about this Proverb.
