Hello! I hope you’re having a blessed day 😊
I’ve only been reading the Bible for about 1 year and 3 months, but I have a few verses memorized already. I never sat down with the intention of committing verses to memory. No, this happened in a much more simple and natural way.
3 Shortcuts to Memorize Scripture:
1. Seek verses for your personal situation
For instance, I often have issues of a running mind at night. I can’t just lay down and fall asleep. I have to quiet my mind, which usually takes the form of reading until I drift off. What runs through my mind are worries and worst-case-scenarios.
Rather than force my mind to stay quiet, I think of Philippians 4:6
It says “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” I find that thanking Him for all He has done reminds me of the wonderful things in life, of how often He has kept me safe, and suddenly, my worries dissipate.
You can find verses that soothe your worries or encourage your joy. There is a verse for just about every situation!
2. Keep Bible verse cards around
My initial thought in purchasing Bible verse cards was to use them like flashcards. However, I found that it felt very mathematical and stiff, and not spiritual at all. So, instead, I picked out uplifting verses to keep around my writing area.
When I look up, I see these verses and smile 😊 And when I leave my desk area, I find that they stay with me in heart and mind. After a month or so, I’ll change the card and pick a new inspiring or loving verse, but the old one never fades. It stays with me, naturally.
3. Read a daily verse in the morning
This one is by far the most effortless, and you’d be surprised at how well it works! When you read a short verse in the morning, take a few minutes to think about it. Even ONE minute helps keep the verse with you all day.
A simple daily verse website I enjoy is Christianity.com Daily Verse
Whichever way you try it, keep in mind that getting to know God’s Word takes time and repetition. And it not only takes your head, but your heart, too. And action! When you apply God’s Word to your life, you remember it in a very personal and spiritual way.
- Memorizing scripture takes time and repetition, and that’s okay 🤗
- Seek the Bible every day, especially with issues pertaining to your personal situation
- Keep verses near you for inspiration, motivation, and joy. Use cards, your own handwriting, or your journal.
- Take action! When you read a verse, follow its advice, and you’ll find that it will stay with you in both heart and mind ❤️
I hope these tips help you to become more familiar with your Bible and with God.
Take care and God bless,
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this blog!
I appreciate you!
