💮 Welcome back, beautiful sister in Christ 💮
Last week, time got away from me, and I skipped this post. Oops! But in that time, I finished a novel I’ve been writing, so I Praise the Lord! 🙂 Today we’ll continue with Proverbs 31 woman, lines 13-14. Let’s get started!
She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
Proverbs 31: 13-14
I was having a bit of trouble understanding the wool and flax, but after a few internet searches, this verse has become more clear. Wool is typically used to make warmer clothing and other items, so it is especially useful in the fall/winter. Flax is typically used to make cooler garments and other items, so it is especially useful in the spring/summer.
Though the Proverbs 31 woman probably made her own clothing and sheets (because there wasn’t a Macy’s or Kohl’s back then… not even a Walmart!), we can modernize this verse to mean that we take care to dress our family appropriately.
And this isn’t about money. I remember growing up poor, and instead of buying a proper jacket at the thrift store, my parents were too proud to shop there. So I often went to school in the winter with a windbreaker. A windbreaker! (I really dislike those things now- shudders).
Select what is appropriate for your family.
The Proverbs 31 woman sees her family’s needs, and she “works with eager hands” to ensure that everyone–including herself–has the appropriate items necessary. With her wool and flax, she has her family covered year-round!
And though I’m not 100% sure of what the last lines mean, I interpret them this way: She also meets her family’s dietary needs. Just like she chooses the appropriate fabrics for the time of year, so does she choose the appropriate foods to keep her family healthy and energized.
However, I am completely new at all this, so if you do know the appropriate meaning of the verse, please share in the comments!
To me, Proverbs 31: 13-14 is all about a woman who takes care to see her family’s needs, and then works hard to meet those needs. It is about a woman who cares deeply about her loved ones. And doesn’t having the appropriate clothing and right foods make all of us feel better? 🙂
Thank you for joining me again, and I hope to see you next time! Thanks so much to everyone who has been commenting, liking, and following this blog. This is all about us coming together and seeking Jesus, and seeking to learn from the Bible! 🤗
Take care and God bless your week,
