☕ Thanks for dropping by once again ☕
I’m learning from the Bible that God wants us to present ourselves in ways that honor Him and in ways that are respectable. This requires modesty. We are to clothe ourselves in respectable ways, and we are also called to behave with strength, dignity, and humility.
So far I’ve spoken about what modesty means to me in clothing and behavior, but there’s another part of life where we need modesty ~ online.
The good advice that the Bible provides for us doesn’t change just because the setting changes into cyberspace.
The way we act should remain consistent in real life as in social media. Even on the websites where you’ve chosen to remain anonymous, you are still interacting with others and presenting a version of your self.
but like the Holy One who called you,
be holy yourselves also in all your behavior;
1 Peter 1:15
Only conduct yourselves
in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ,
so that whether I come and see you
or remain absent,
I will hear of you that you are standing firm
in one spirit, with one mind
striving together for the faith of the gospel;
But the online world can be a little frustrating, right? Here are some personal tips for how you can retain your modesty online:
- Remember that once it’s online, it’s there forever. That sexy selfie might be best kept between you and your spouse, or risk it being spread.
- Ask yourself some tough questions, such as are you glorifying your online presence more than Christ? Do you feel the urge to always post selfies? Are you being provocative/not modest online?
- When you see something offensive, keep scrolling. If it persists, you can stop following that person. But it doesn’t honor Christ to get into an online shouting match.
What does being modest on social media/online mean to you?
