Good afternoon! ☕
I’ve noticed a bit of a trend recently, and that’s testimony envy. I hear people say that their testimony is boring: They grew up in the church, so they’re Christian, but they wish they had a more interesting testimony.
I suppose my testimony is “interesting,” but trust me, I wouldn’t wish it on anyone! I was homeless in my teens, struggled with alcoholism in my 20’s, and dabbled in witchcraft in my late 20’s. All that I was saved from, and it may make for a juicy story… but ultimately, it was all an incredibly difficult time in my life, back when I was separated from God.
You have lived the story that God has meant for you to live.
We trust God with our future, so let’s trust Him with our past, too. You have lived the story He has meant for YOU to live. Remember:
No temptation has overtaken you
except what is common to mankind.
And God is faithful; he will not let you
be tempted beyond what you can bear.
But when you are tempted, he will also
provide a way out so that you can endure it.
1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV
I was able to overcome my past. It was not beyond what I could bear, and God provided me a way out. He kept His promises for me and my specific life. I’ve learned through the difficult times, and God has saved me.
Consider that YOU may not have been equipped to deal with all that was in MY life (and vice versa). It doesn’t make you boring. Your life has been different ~ that’s all! It’s no big deal if your testimony doesn’t inspire oohs and aahs.
🤗 Those type of reactions can inspire pride, anyway.
Have you come across testimony envy? LMK in the comments!
Take care and God bless,
